Description

LebanonPostcard presents a value book: Green Lebanon: The Book showcases what remains of Lebanon’s forests covering only 13 % of the 10,452 sq km that constitute Lebanon’s area. To record and to present, to capture and to communicate, Green Lebanon: The Book offers, by way of exclusive artistic photos, a representative selection of forest species and views from all over Lebanon. Yet the book within your hands is much more than a book. It is the second step in the environmental initiative launched by the authors of this book, Pascale Choueri Saad and Lara Hanna Debs, to save Lebanon’s forests. The first step in the Green Lebanon initiative consisted of creating a line of cedar-shaped jewelry that succeeded in raising 62.000 USD. This amount was used to restore 6000 pine and olive trees across Lebanon’s North, South, and Mount Lebanon. All returns from Green Lebanon: The Book will be donated to the Association for Forests, Development and Conservation (AFDC) for the purpose of reforesting what forest fires have burned down.

A Word from General Director of AFDC

The richness, beauty and natural value of forests make them of important significance to humans. Moreover, Lebanon’s forests are considered in many respects an asset to the wider region.

We are confident that his book will raise the awareness of the importance of Lebanon’s forests and contribute to its reforestation and conservation.

We seize this opportunity to thank Mrs. Pascale Choueri Saad and Mrs. Lara Hanna Debs who have set an example for good citizenship, responsibility and contribution to a greener Lebanon.

Mrs. Nada Zaarour

Let us act today so that we may look straight into the eyes of our children and grandchildren, and tell them the heritage we are leaving them is living, and the symbol of their country – the cedar – is not just a symbol but a force of life!!
