LebanonPostcard presents the book Boulos Richa بولس ريشا by Cesar Nammour and Gabriela Schaub, 33×23.5 cm, 144 pages – ISBN 978-9953-555-11-9
Boulos Richa بولس ريشا, born in 1927 in Lebanon, was trained as a blacksmith and had his own workshop in Batroun, producing axes, hoes, scythes and other iron tools. It came naturally that his passion for iron brought out in him the iron sculptor that he is.
He exhibited his works in 1967 on the sidewalk next to his shop in the main street of Batroun. Since then, he held twenty-five exhibitions in Lebanon, and one in Paris curated by Brigitte Chehade, the wife of the author George Chehade. A retrospective exhibition at MACAM museum honored him in 2015.
Boulos Richa is an artist by nature with fine taste. His work is figurative, abstract, and surreal. His innate sense detects the secret of symmetry in reaching the correct proportions. He believes that art should express an idea, a message. He tackles subjects such as war and peace, freedom and the resistance to oppression.
