Le vicomte Eugène Melchior de Vogue, souvent appelé simplement de Vogue, était un célèbre diplomate, écrivain et érudit français. Il est né le 25 février 1848 à Nice et décédé le 24 mars 1910 à Paris. Il a mené une carrière diplomatique réussie, en tant qu’ambassadeur de son pays auprès de plusieurs pays, dont la Russie, l’Espagne et le Royaume-Uni. Il a joué un rôle important dans l’élaboration de la politique étrangère française lorsqu’il était diplomate.
Dans ce livre, nous sommes confrontés au parcours d’un homme instruit et prometteur de vingt-quatre ans. Il est issu d’une famille aristocratique riche, instruite et distinguée avec des racines en Bourgogne-France dans son voyage au Liban, en Syrie et en Palestine. L’écrivain se distingue par son langage sophistiqué et sonore, et devient ensuite un écrivain de renom et membre de l’Académie française. Il diffère des autres voyageurs en ce qu’il décrit des sentiments et des sensations, et après chaque événement, il entre dans son histoire sous une forme belle et épurée.
