“The Art of Madi” (Saqi Books, 2004) was an overview of Hussein Madi’s works in painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture.
“Madi-Sculptures 1969-2009” focuses on the artist’s abundant output of sculptures in bronze, wax, terra cotta, plaster, wood, cardboard, galvanized iron, and wrought iron.
Although a master painter and draftsman, Hussein Madi has always viewed himself fore and foremost as a sculptor.
He relishes the direct participation of his body in the creative process, from modeling clay to cutting and bending galvanized iron. He is always present at the wrought iron workshop to direct the execution of his models by skilled technicians.
His work is ruled by number, measure, and proportion.
Despite its geometrical strictness, it is essentially playful and generous, celebrating life in all its aspects.
