Houses and Seasons is one of the first projects I conceived since 2000. This book reveals my first steps in photography. In the beginning, I decided that my photos should only include Lebanon, its nature and its landscapes. Then my grandparents’ faces, my home village, Bhamdoun, and its old houses caught my attention.
In my childhood, I saw the red rooftops of Bhamdoun as high as the Himalayas. With my friends, we tried to reach them by climbing on a tree or up on the roof of a neighbor’s house. However, the great adventure was to sneak in one of the old houses. We used to tiptoe trying not to disturb the spirits and the ghosts of this mysterious house where dust decorated the central hall and covered the furniture and the black-and-white portrait of some relative who traveled to America during the 1914 Great Famine. All this was deeply engraved in my mind.
Over time, photography joined the landscape, the faces and the old houses, first through a pilot slideshow uploaded in 2012 on YouTube with the music of Claude Debussy, la cathédrale engloutie. This project generated the present book consisting of four parts… etc… Extracts by Eddy Choueiry
